Situated on the Caribbean coast of south-central Cuba, Cienfuegos is a compelling place to visit. With its colorful façade, wide streets and charming French colonial architecture, it rightfully deserves the title, La Perla del Sur (Pearl of the South). Founded by the French in 1819, Cienfuegos is one of Cuba’s newest settlements and feels quite different from the rest of the country. The city was developed and expanded thanks to the trade of sugar cane, cattle, tobacco and coffee.
On this experience, you will explore some of the most iconic places in town, including a walk through the main city square and craft market. From here you can view the 19th century Tomás Terry Theater, where many world-famous performances took place. You will also visit a cigar factory where local rollers make exquisite cigars. Enjoy a panoramic drive along the city avenues and discover the diversity of the elegant columns adorning the city. This adventure continues with a visit to the Punta Gorda neighborhood where you will get to witness the remarkable array of eclectic palaces. Located on the peninsula stands Palacio de Valle, symbol of the South Pearl and pink jewel of Punta Gorda. Observe the mixture of architectural styles as it is one of the most emblematic buildings in the region. Head to the rooftop terraza to enjoy panoramic views of the bay while enjoying a refreshing cocktail.
