Viñales Horseback Expedition: Valleys, Farms & Community Connections
About This Experience
Experience Viñales from a unique perspective on horseback, traveling through its dramatic landscapes while engaging directly with independent farmers and local entrepreneurs. This immersive journey is designed to foster meaningful, people-to-people connections and provide insight into rural Cuban life. Guided by a local Cuban expert, you will explore privately managed lands, learn about traditional agricultural practices, and interact with community members who sustain these cultural and economic traditions independently. Your experience begins at Viñales Central Park, where you will meet your independent local Cuban guide before heading to the nearby starting point to meet your horses. From there, you will ride along scenic trails through the Viñales Valley, passing through privately cultivated lands framed by the region's iconic mogotes (limestone formations). Along the way, your guide will provide context about the local ecosystem and agricultural traditions. Your first stop is a privately owned, family-run tobacco farm. Here, you will engage directly with local farmers (vegueros), who will share their knowledge of traditional tobacco cultivation and curing methods. This exchange offers valuable insight into one of Cuba's most recognized artisanal practices. The journey continues to an independently operated coffee and honey farm. You will meet local producers who manage these small-scale operations and learn about organic farming techniques, as well as the preparation of regional products, including coffee, honey, and traditional guayabita del pinar. Continuing on horseback, you will ride deeper into the valley toward the peaceful Valley of Silence. At a scenic viewpoint, take time to appreciate panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and reflect on the natural and cultural richness of the region. The experience concludes with a meal at a privately owned paladar, where food is prepared by local families using ingredients sourced from nearby farms. This provides a direct opportunity to support independent community members and their businesses.
